Gordon Forsyth
It was Andrew MacLaren, MP for Burslem, who suggested to the parish priest Fr William Browne, that working people should make the decoration for the church, and when asked renowned artist and superintendent of Stoke-on-Trent art education Gordon Forsyth agreed to teach 50 young parishioners to make stained glass windows.
The 32 windows in St Joseph's were then designed by Forsyth (as were the ceiling panels) and subsequently made by the young people.
Gordon Forsyth and Fr Browne became great friends and in time Forsyth advised on other artistic matters in the church, and soon his daughter Moira was also producing artwork for the church.
